Valentine’s Day | Double Date Heaven
February 10, 2010 | Filed Under Uncategorized
I love this idea. The idea of a super intimate cutesy funsy fun double date- on Valentine’s day. That’s what I conceived this entire shoot around. And I, for one, LOVE it! But then again, I’m mildly obsessed with love [as an artform] in general so this should come as no surprise. And here’s the proof [in the proverbial puddin', if you will]:
We are thrilled to report that the lovely images from our recent Val-Day-extravaganza shoot will be gracing the screens of those all over the world via the likes of one of the best, most impressive, incredibly elite and seriously jaw-dropping blogs in the business. I’d say more, but I really don’t want to jinx myself just yet with it.
It’s a “pinch me” moment for me. Mainly because I feel so wholeheartedly responsible for this shoot. From flowers, to styling, to stationary, to photos… In The Now was responsible for it all and us here at Two Auer Photo [TAP] got to document it! What could honestly be more flattering? Could there be… anything? I think not! Here’s some more images from the shoot. I’ll narrate as we go along [as I do so well, right?]…
The cats are wine bottles. Opaque white CAT wine bottles. Stop. Just… stop it.
We piled up [all haphazardly] these white old fashioned milk bottles all over the table as a centerpiece. I love that the flowers look as though they’re falling/flowing out of the jars. Anemones [the red with black centers, featured here] are one of my favorites and I was thrilled that they brought out that vintage-home-spun feel to this modern styled table!
We took a few of these shots using time exposure to capture the best lighting in our studio space. The shot above [as well as the first image] are examples of that. I totally love the natural saturation that occurs when photographing objects like this. It’s exceptional and I can’t wait to do more of it.
Linzer cookies with heart cut-outs were a must for this table. Again, adding in that vintage feel. And that plate… ugh, it’s everything that I feel is RIGHT about Valentine’s Day [and love]!
Full on traditional color scheme of pink and red. PINK champagne, PINK chairs. Red linen, red flowers. Lots of white… and a subtle pop of deep grey!
Newsflash: I love shots from above any table. You’ll see them a lot. Because I love them so. Symmetry is a MUST in my daily life and seeing a design from directly above is intoxicating!
How cute is that lace table cuff?? I added that on pretty much “last minute” to give it that extra sugary sweetness feel.
The floral catalogue used: anemones [as mentioned], red tulips, and pink mini carnations. I know- but don’t roll your eyes. Carnations get a bad rap when they’re actually quite ruffle-y and yummy to look at! Plus, they totally ooze the era of mid-century that this table is replicating.
The shot above was a bit of a throw-away upon first glance but after a crop or two I just fell into a hard case of “like” with it. I love that the two mini cookie trays aren’t perfectly straight. I love the vase peeking into the upper right corner. I just like the blank space and balance that this photo gives. And, well, umm… it’s from above!
The champagne shot, above, is one of Josh’s favorites. He feels [incredibly] strongly about having drinks poured during our table staging sessions. He super loves catching the champagne whilst it sits bubbling.
Simply delicious place cards featured a cross-stitched style font and border. Insider info… I always use the names of my team members from In The Now for my paper goods. It’s just my thing.
One full place setting. Just so darn cute, right? I offset the plates towards the corners of the table so that the couples would be sitting knee-to-knee in total complete schmoopy love. I adore it!!
P.S. Has anyone noticed yet that these cookies are housed in mini hot dog trays? Seriously you guys, they’re 4″ by 3″. Adorb!
This detail photo is a favorite of both of ours. It won us over instantly. It truly showcases the texture of our linen as well as the attention to detail that I crave in each photo I see [or shoot]!
Kind of a funky above-the-table shot but I like it, in all of it’s crooked, off-kilter form:
Those heart cut-outs tasted just as good going down my throat as they do lookin’ good here in this picture. Promise!
One last little detail for ya:

And since we’re all about starting the conversation with y’all… can anybody tell me why it’s nearly 3am and I’m up blogging? Anyone?
Perhaps that answer is for me to discover another day. Hope these tickled your fancy and gave your heart a flutter or two!
xoxo,
A.
